MW / The hills are alive indeed

I was not a huge fan of Lady Gaga when she first hit the scene. Although I've always had respect for her as a musician (I consider her one of the better pop singers out there), I didn't have a single song of hers on my iPod - dance music never was my thing. I knew her songs from too much radio airplay, and through friends who adored her and her eccentricity.

The internet exploded after Lady Gaga performed at the Academy Awards early this year - she blew everyone away with an incredible tribute to the classic film, "The Sound of Music." An hour after she sang, videos of the tribute made their way to YouTube, which is a good because I don't own a television! Haha! A friend posted it on her Facebook page, and out of curiosity, I clicked on it when it appeared on my feed.

She was amazing. I knew she could sing, but I didn't know she could sing like THAT. Or perhaps I was just too distracted by her over-the-top costumes and antics to really pay enough attention to her vocal prowess. Aside from her beautiful, powerful singing, what I appreciated about her Oscars number is her significantly understated look.

I'm sure you've watched that performance already, but in case you want to hear it again (I know I do), click here and enjoy! :)
